Don’t look now… there’s a puppet in front of you!

The ancient art of puppetry is all around us — if you know where to look.

Just ask Vista’s Tania Yager where to find them.  Yager has turned her fascination with puppeteering and puppet making into a successful artist career and business called TwistedHeart Puppetworks.

Undoubtedly some of your favorite movies have used puppet magic generously, let alone entire TV shows like Sesame Street. For TwistedHeart, business has come in the form of shadow puppet performances, music videos, festivals and artwork.

Yager has been the Artist in Residence at the Backfence Society, 110 S. Citrus Ave., Suite F in Downtown Vista over the past month.  Check out her special events as her residency wraps up Dec. 4:

  • Artist talk and Krampus lecture: Dive into the world of The Dark Christmas as Yager explores her creative process and fascination with old-world European Yule character and customs during a lecture Friday, Dec. 3.
  • Dark Kristmas Mark’t:  Holiday ornaments, Krampus art and a free puppet show close out Yager’s exhibit run Saturday, Dec. 4 from 3-9 p.m. The puppet show is at 7:30 p.m.
